Two Honesdale High School students were recognized this week by the school board for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Christian Kowalczyk is in the top five percent of the class, while Emma Lawson is in the top 15 percent.

Both students have participated in numerous academic and athletic organizations.

Kowalczyk's activities and achievements include golf, tennis, American Mathematics Competition, Marywood Math Contest, Math Madness Online Competition, King's College Math Contest, American Regional Math League, Science Olympiad, Envirothon, NEPA Bridge Building, American Chemical Society, Student Council member at large, sophomore class vice president, Robotics Club, Scholastic Bowl team, Interact Club, honor roll and National Honor Society.

He plans to attend a college or university to study computer science. He is the son of Randall and Darlene Kowalczyk of Honesdale.

Lawson's activities and achievements include cross country, track and field, wrestling statistician, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science second place at regionals and states, Student Council homeroom representative, Interact Club, Honesdale High School Therapeutic Riding Club, honor roll and National Honor Society.

Lawson also is serving in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and has completed basic combat training. She plans to attend a four-year university to major in biology, and she hopes to work with animals in some capacity as a career.

She is the daughter of Bruce and Kim Lawson of Milanville.
